The trail was 15 miles, but it was all downhill, which is the only reason I was able to do it 6 months pregnant. There was a shuttle at the bottom that would drive you back to the top for a fee...and that fee was sooooo worth it. There's no way I could have made it back up.

One of the tressels we went over. The highest one was 280 ft high. It made me dizzy to look over the edge.

The back entrance to the longest tunnel, almost 2 miles long. You had to bike back up through it to get to the parking lot. We brought glow sticks and flashlights for the kids, and they had a great time.

We also hiked the Pulaski trail. Apparently there was a huge fire here 100 years ago, and there were 45 firefighters in danger of dying. A man named Ed Pulaski led the men to an old mine tunnel where they were able to hide from the heat, and most of them survived. The trail was 2 miles long and ended up at the tunnel. The trail was also deceptively gentle in the beginning, but just about killed me off the last 1/4 mile. Jacob asked me and David if we ever give up. We told him no. (That was before it got really steep) Try to imagine a pregnant woman waddling up the mountain and gasping for air while saying, "Never give up!", and you've got a pretty good idea of what the hike was like. It was worth it though, everything up there is so beautiful it was one of the prettiest hikes I've ever been on.

The trails look beautiful. Was the one with the bridge and the tunnel an old rail line?
Yes, that was the one that was a rail to trail path.
